When we moved here in 1987 from Minnesota it was time to join the fitness world! I met an instructor in the laundry room of our apartment complex. He introduced me to my mentor and still dear friend, Marilu, who taught an Instructor Training Course. That’s also how I met fellow instructor/”bestie” Angel in the same training course 30+ years ago!
From there started teaching at The Palms at Palm Springs (Marilu was fitness director), this was also where I met our dear Rozzie who was an occasional day guest there. ☺️
I went on to get Personal Training, Yoga, and Senior Fitness certifications. This took me to teaching at Marriott, several country clubs, and gyms throughout the desert. And then when Rozzie seeked me out to come teach at Sun City that’s where I found my true “home”. I love the family that Trim N Tone has created. We have fun staying healthy together and I am grateful to lead the group in this endeavor! Even the days when maybe we aren’t up to the task, the music starts, and we are moving!! With smiles on our faces! The heart and lungs are healthier and our muscles and bones are stronger.

My name is Leslie Daily, and I currently serve the TNT club as your Step Instructor. My class is probably the most intense, and I share this title with my wonderful co-teacher Nancy True.
Prior to moving to the desert, I lived in Thousand Oaks with my extraordinary husband and 3 terrific kids. After I finished a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology and Master’s degree in Environmental Science and Occupational Health, I worked for Smith Kline as a corporate Safety and Environmental Manager. My territory covered from San Luis Obispo to San Diego, and I was responsible for all of the biological and hazardous waste disposal. I also did all reporting to Cal OSHA, the EPA, AQMD, LAFD, and made sure the lab was running according to all of the governing laws and regulations. I also maintained safety of PPE for all of 2000+ draw stations.
When I got pregnant with our first child, that career had to come to a rapid end. Then, I began my very long teaching career in fitness and health. I taught at Moorpark College for 24 years as a dual department professor. I taught kinesiology courses in Kickboxing, Pilates, Step Aerobics, laboratory testing, and health courses in Women’s Health, Self Defense, Immunity and Infection, and general health. I worked closely with our former Step Instructor MoDean McCullough who was the Department Chair at that time.
After raising our children, we finally had the opportunity to fulfill our long-term plan and move to the desert. As you know, there is nothing like our beautiful desert! When we arrived here, I had planned to ease into retirement and play tennis. My friend and mentor MoDean had other ideas! She asked me if I would take over her class in Sun City which I did in 2021 and have been here since that time. I also have taught now at The Hideaway (water aerobics), and The Lakes (Pilates Mat). Whenever I teach, I have a keen interest in making the quality of my students’ experience the best that it can
be. I thank you for allowing me to share that very special gift.

I’ve been in the fitness field since 1977!
I fell in love with fitness after a Kinesiology course I took in college.
I loved studying body mechanics, muscles and movement and wanted to be an instructor.
I managed an exercise studio in Natick, Massachusetts called Gloria Stevens for a few
years and eventually bought a franchise in Providence, Rhode Island.
I have a twin sister Jeannette, who was also in the business.
A producer that was in our class loved the twin idea and asked if we would like to do an
exercise show. We had a cable TV show in the 80s (the Jane Fonda days) and appeared numerous times on the local Good Day morning show. We were also featured in FIT magazine.
I’ve been teaching movement to music exercise classes for many years and love it! After living in Laguna Niguel for 32 years, I decided to move to the desert in 2021. So glad I did! I started teaching classes with Trim and Tone shortly there after. I create my own workouts and make original playlists with uplifting music. My goal is to always create a fun and energetic workout.
I’ve also taught personal training, boot camp (no longer ha!) and senior fit workouts at
assisted living facilities. I’m certified in Group Fitness, Body Pump and Zumba, as well as CPR and AED.
I always look forward to teaching group fitness classes with all of you at Sun City!

My early dance years in Indiana, along with teaching tap & jazz, exposed me to not only ‘warm ups’ to prevent injury & prepare your muscles, but movement, music & choreography. So when this “aerobics” craze hit; it was definitely in my wheel-house.
I taught my 1st aerobics class in 1974; long before AFAA (certification) was created in 1983. I have been instructing for over 50 years! I moved to SoCal in the late 70’s & taught at RBW in Santa Ana & other fitness studios in Orange County. Many instructors brought their own style to their classes & I was no exception. Dance constantly challenges the brain to adapt. It activates multiple brain areas at once:
movement, memory, rhythm, balance and attention. This combination forces the brain to form new neural connections: this is neuroplasticity. And beyond brain health, dance strengthens the muscles we rely on for daily life.
The Palm Springs Follies brought me to beautiful SCPD. While participating in a TNT class, Rozzie approached me about teaching. This opportunity has been a great, glorious gift…a 2nd Act.

Nancy True
I began my fitness journey in the 80’s donning leg warmers and leotards while following the leads of fitness gurus such as Jane Fonda, Richard Simmons and Arnold Schwarzenegger. During that decade I owned and operated Trues Taekwondo martial arts/fitness schools in both Morgan Hill and Hollister, California. The businesses allowed me to hone my skills in all aspects of fitness from martial arts and weapons training to step, high/lo impact, yoga, Pilates, strength training and later spin classes and water aerobics. During this time, I also worked as a 911 dispatcher for the Morgan Hill Police Department after they opened their first computer aided dispatch center in the late 80s. In the late 90’s, I competed in numerous natural bodybuilding contests throughout the San Jose Bay Area as well as competing in various Tae Kwan Do tournaments. After moving to the desert in 2003, I opened Mobile Zoo of Southern California which specializes in mobile animal educational programs for Los Angeles unified school district sites, libraries, movies and special events. I guess one could say I truly enjoy training animals… including people! My other hobbies include writing songs and poetry, playing electric guitar in a local band, piano, drawing and clay sculpting as well as all things fitness! Looking forward to working out with you in class!

Marnie Laatz
Hi…I’m Marnie, your Saturday morning fitness instructor. I started teaching fitness
classes in 1978 and since I’m still doing it, it’s obvious I love it. I also love that those of
you who take my classes have probably been working out for years and the
camaraderie I have with all you fitness buffs inspires me.
In 1973 I earned a BS in physical education with a minor in anatomy/physiology which
launched my career in teaching high school and college physical education and health
sciences for 30 years. In 1994 I earned a masters degree in exercise physiology,
opened a fitness center on Bainbridge Island, WA and in addition to teaching fitness
classes, worked as a personal trainer with special populations – Parkinsons, MS, post
heart surgery recovery. In the early 2000’s my book “Choosing Your Healthy Path” was
published and as a result was invited as a key note speaker at many health related
conferences throughout the western U.S. I’ve written and/or been cited in articles for
Glamour, Ms Fitness, Costco Connection, Golf Digest, and Pacific NW Golf magazine.
During the height of my career, I was the fitness consultant for Cybex Exercise
Equipment Co. It makes me tired just thinking of all that and now, I’m winding down and having the fun of teaching a few classes a week at Bermuda Dunes CC and Sun City.
Stay fit and healthy!

Born with the athletic gene from both sides of my family, I ran track in elementary school, competed in roller skating at the Skate Ranch in Santa Ana, and fell in love with running in high school.
I started teaching group fitness in 1978 at Spa Lady in Orange County and continued in Juneau, Alaska after moving there in 1984. In 1997, I earned my ACE Group Fitness Instructor certification.
For over 40 years, I’ve trained in HIIT (low and medium intensity), Zumba, Pilates, YogaFit (Levels 1–4 + Senior/Chair), TRX, Barre, Kickboxing, Step, BOSU, Body Pump, and more.
In 2016, my husband Tony and I moved to Sun City to be near my mom, Judi Martinez, who loved Trim N Tone. After her 2019 passing, I began teaching for Trim N Tone and Yoga/Pilates clubs. Thank you for this fun, supportive group!
The magic pill is motion!
